Immigration in America
On Tuesday February 14, 2018, the Center co-hosted an immigration panel discussion with the Beacon Center of Tennesse for a mixed audience of members of their Young Professional Society and their Bastiat Socierty chapter. Dr. Christopher Freiman, Associate Professor of Philosophy at the College of William and Mary moderated the discussion.
Our panelists were Alex Nowrasteh, Policy Analyst at the Cato Institute and Hans von Spakovsky, Manager of the Election Law Reform Initiative at the Heritage Foundation.
The panelists explored whether America needs more or less immigration based on political, economic, moral, and cultural considerations. They considered to what extent immigration strenghthens or harms the "American way of life," the relationship between immigration and crime, issues related to welfare, and whether justice demands opening borders or protecting national interests.
