Entrepreneurship, Prosperity, & Culture
On February 22-25, 2018, the Center co-hosted a weekend retreat with the Adam Smith Society in Dana Point, California. This "Smith Soc Trek" brought together 17 MBA students and alums from across the country for a Socratic seminar on entrepreneurship facilitated by Dr. Christopher Martin, Assistant Professor of Economics at Hillsdale College.
Using a diverse set of readings curated by the Center and Dr. Martin, the group explored the classical foundations for entrepreneurship, the institutional and moral dilemmas entrepreneurs face, and the state of innovation today. Selected from hundreds of applicants, our participants were some of the best and brightest minds alive today seeking to leave their mark through investing, consulting, startups, tech, and healthcare.
The schedule included plenty of breaks for "soak time," so participants could get to know one another better and explore the surrounding area. The group quickly formed lasting connections, swapping articles and photos and forming plans to meet up again in the future.
The intellectual connections made throughout the weekend were equally valuable. The participants left with new ideas, questions, and inspiration to apply what they learned to promote human flourishing through the influential roles they play in the marketplace and in their broader communities.
